About me

Hi. I’m an economist in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I teach and conduct research in development economics.  My research focuses on problems of globalization, growth, and development, mainly in East and Southeast Asia. At UW I am a faculty affiliate of the Center for Demography and EcologyInstitute for Research on PovertyCenter for Southeast Asian StudiesCenter for East Asian Studies, and La Follette School of Public Affairs.

Since 2016 I am also an Honorary Professor in the Arndt-Corden Department of Economics, Australian National University.

I’m a member of the inequality measurement, interpretation, and policy network in the Human Capital and Economic Opportunity Global Working Group at the University of Chicago.
